fava beans

i bought these last saturday at the farmers’ market. these are part of my effort to try new food. the pods are big and not very attractive looking, but i went for it anyway. when i got home and looked up fava beans i discovered that they take a lot of work. first you have to peel the outer shell, then you need to boil the beans for a couple of minutes and finally you peel the outer coating of the bean off. when it was all said and done i must admit that they were very good. they have a sort of sour flavor, like brussel sprouts, which i quite like.

i made a pasta dish using pork sausage, farfalle, fava beans, and tomatoes. it was light and delicious. i found it here on epicurious. we have been in the process of rearranging the furniture in our apartment. one of the changes has been moving the table next to the windows in our living room. it’s so nice to sit next to all of that natural light while dining!
